Unwrap Luxury: Live Like a Tiffany Gem at The Nines Portland

Have you ever wonder what it might be like to live inside a beautifully wrapped Tiffany’s gift box? Spend a night or two at The Nines in downtown Portland and you’ll get a sense of what it must be like to be one of those highly appreciated gems that are lovingly presented in Tiffany blue.

Gracing the heart of the city’s center and rising fifteen stories to the top of one of Portland’s most beloved landmarks, the stately Meier & Frank Building, The Nines has become an arbiter of taste and style with its unyielding focus on the luxurious.

EAT

Once you’ve open the door to your spacious jewel-box of a room, drop your bags and head to the velvet couch (Tiffany blue, natch) that snuggles up against lavishly draped windows looking out on the mountains surrounding the city – a perfect place for a quick respite and to get your bearings straight before heading out for a meal.

Once you’ve pried yourself from the lap of luxury it’s just a quick stroll from your door toward the center of The Nines to take in a bird’s eye view of the spirited fete taking place in the hotel’s atrium just a few floors below.

Follow the buzz and you’ll find yourself at the Urban Farmer Restaurant. In fact, that buzz you hear could very well be originating from the locally crafted Moonshine whiskey punch that is served in the Urban Farmer Bar. Of course, it’s never recommended to drink on an empty stomach and you’ll find plenty of chophouse fare from Oregon farmers and ranchers that satisfy in this modern take on a steakhouse.

Start your meal with the Butcher’s Cut featuring an Oregon grain-finished 24 oz Porterhouse or go all in with a New York Steak tasting ($80) and settle in for 6 oz each of Oregon grass fed, Brandt prime and Painted Hills twenty-one day dry aged. And if you really want to up the protein quotient add the Wagyu for an additional 42 bucks. If tearing into a side of beef is not your thing Urban Farmer also offers up plenty of veggie, fish and seafood options.

DRINK

You don’t need to buy a plane ticket to some far flung location to experience a little adventure while savoring your cocktail. The only arrivals and departures you’ll have to worry about are taking place on the 15th floor of The Nines at Departure Restaurant. Whisking your way through this sleek restaurant and bar will have your mind and taste buds globetrotting long before you order your first drink.

Join the jet set vibe and get ready for some wickedly mixed cocktails that feature exotic fruits and potions.

Grab a much sought after seat at the bar and swap travel stories with the intrepid explorer beside you or opt for some fresh air and head outside to one of the two rooftop patios and plan your next adventure while sipping on the Three Headed Elephant (casadores anejo, apricot liqueur, sriracha, citrus) or the Tuk-Tuk (10 cane, falernum, basil, lime, ginger beer). You are now free to move about the cabin.

SLEEP

The Nines has a big-city feel that energizes Portland’s core and you’ll find plenty of activity and buzz from the moment you pull up in front of this storied structure with its flecked terra cotta façade. But the one word that best describes the luxe accommodations you’ll experience at The Nines is elegance.

From the aforementioned Tiffany blue velvet sofa that seems to float on the deep chocolate carpet of the room to the silk toss pillows lining the pillow top bed, it is clear that The Nines has only one objective in mind – and that is to pamper.

Once you’ve been nudged from dreaming your sweet dreams you’ll need little, if any, encouragement to enter back into the waking world by way of the cascading rainforest shower in your marbled bathroom.

Luxuriate all you want in the Gilchrist & Soames bath and body products but make sure you leave time to sit back, sip some coffee or tea in your comfy side chair and appreciate some of the expertly curated objects of art that represent some of the finest works by Portland’s most notable artists.
