Sleater-Kinney Is Back…at Bumbershoot!

If you were around in the late 90s, you may have caught Sleater-Kinney at Bumbershoot. This would have been just a few years prior to the release of their critically acclaimed album, “All Hands on the Bad One.”

Back then, festival tickets were affordable to most, and you would have also seen the likes of Beck, David Byrne, Sheryl Crow, and Sonic Youth. Fast forward a quarter of a century and Bumbershoot, for many fest goers, became almost unrecognizable (and much more expensive).

After taking a couple of years off to reevaluate and retool, Bumbershoot is back. And, to kick off the new look, the seminal riot grrrl band Sleater-Kinney (less Janet Weiss on drums) will be back on stage as one of the headliners.

New year, new look

Another act that blew up in the 90s will also be laying down some beats over Labor Day weekend. Norman Cook, or as you may know him as – Fatboy Slim, is slated to bring a little EDM to the Bumbershoot party.

Also on tap are The Revivalists, The Dandy Warhols (shout out to Portland), and emo band, Jawbreaker. You’ll also find plenty of local favorites to sway, dance and rock to. The Black Tones, Wimps, Sunny Day Real Estate, and Thunderpussy are just a few Pac Northwest bands on the bill.

The weekend will be filled with visual art as well. Contemporary art will dot Fisher Pavilion and Seattle Center grounds. And, there will even be a separate fashion district for all of you fashionistas out there.

Tickets still may not be as inexpensive as they were when Sleater-Kinney first bounded on stage, but they have been reduced significantly. This year, passes for the two-day fest can be had at $110 – or $65 for single day tickets. That’s half the price from when Bumbershoot last hit the Seattle Center grounds (a three-day fest at the time).
