Seattle Art Fair Returns This Weekend
The Seattle Art Fair returns this Thursday after a two-year, pandemic enforced hiatus.
Kicking off Thursday with an opening night preview, the four-day arts fete once again takes over Lumen Field Event Center. This year the fair will showcase collections from 85 local, national, and international galleries.
Seattle Art Fair got its start in 2015 when Microsoft co-founder, philanthropist and renowned art collector, Paul Allen created the event to bring the major art fair world to his hometown of Seattle. With Allen’s passing in 2018, there were some questions whether or not the fest would even continue.
But the questions have been put to rest as AMP events, a co-producer of the fair since its inception, took over as the sole owner and producer.
Zeitgeist
Now in its sixth year (the fest sat out in 2020 and 2021 as the world dealt with the pandemic), the fair will continue the tradition with plenty of art installations, events, talks and performances. As with the last Seattle Art Fair held in 2019, Artistic Director Nato Thompson takes the helm to bring the installations and talks to life.
Also returning this year, Seattle Art Museum will be the fair’s beneficiary partner. The partnership, which goes through 2024, extends the reach of the fair, providing the community with year-round opportunities.
There are plenty of big names on the bill this year. We are particularly excited to see the talk by acclaimed contemporary artist Carrie Mae Weems whose work has been exhibited around the globe.
If the latest trends in the art world are your thing, the fair is tapping the co-founder of the Seattle NFT Museum, Peter Hamilton, for a panel discussion on NFT’s and the digital art world.
There is so much packed into Seattle Art Fair, it’s almost impossible to wrap your head around it all. To capture it all in one visit is almost impossible, but you can buy a one-day pass for $25. If you are able to commit more than one day to the fest, a Fair Pass is available for $50 and gets you into the opening night preview, as well as all public days which run Friday through Sunday.
