Seattle Art Fair Promises ‘Different and Wild’

The Seattle Art Fair is back for its fifth year and will feature work from hundreds of contemporary artists from around the globe. Galleries as far away as Vietnam, Japan, Hong Kong and Denmark will set up shop alongside top local, regional and national gallerists aiming to shine a spotlight on some of the art world’s top talent.

Nato Thompson of Philadelphia Contemporary will once again put his curatorial touch on this year’s fête. Thompson has a history of curating large-scale art projects, performances and installations – most recently curating Philadelphia’s Festival for the People, which featured art programs and events across the City of Brotherly Love.

In an announcement earlier this year, Thompson underscored his eagerness to be back in Seattle as Artistic Director for the Fair promising something “altogether different and wild” for its fifth edition.

‘Seattle Art Fair gives artists a powerful spotlight, and I’m revving up to put together a program that is as captivating, inspiring and beautiful as the Pacific Northwest.”

Nato Thompson

Visitors to the Seattle Art Fair this year can expect work from internationally acclaimed artists that veers in the direction of the latest trends happening in the 21st century including politics, science, artificial intelligence, and social media.

One installation in particular will be Bread Face | Self Facing. Known on social media for her Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) videos smashing her face in bread, Bread Face will be on hand with an interactive installation that invites the public to join in on the bread play.

If that’s a little too far out for you, the Seattle Art Fair will have plenty of tried and true contemporary work that would hang respectfully on almost anyone’s living room walls.

The Seattle Art Fair runs August 1 – 4 at the CenturyLink Field Event Center. Tickets can be had here.
