The Many (Music) Stages of Bumbershoot
Bumbershoot is getting ready to take over the Seattle Center in a few days. Festival tents are being set, food vendors are getting prepped, and crews of people are starting to create the many stages across the campus where live music will be coming from seemingly everywhere.
One spot you don’t want to miss is the Vera stage. It’s a little more intimate, a little more scrappy and a whole lot of fun. With bands from Brooklyn to Seattle, it promises to be two days of wall-to-wall energy. Here are a few bands we plan on checking out.
First off, Psymon Spine. This 5 piece band out of Brooklyn just shared out a new single “Sugar” which is filled with plenty of loopy hooks. Speaking of hooks, we’re still dancing around to “Jumprope” from a couple of years back. Check out the video below and you’ll see why. Vera stage – Saturday at 1:50 pm.
Also at Vera on Saturday is the Seattle band, The Divorce. If you were kicking around Seattle’s music scene in the early 2000s you know. They officially parted ways in 2007 but have played a few shows at the Croc and the Tractor Tavern over the past couple of years. Fans are hungry for this one. Vera stage – Saturday at 2:40 pm.
Seattle hip-hop artist Grynch has been at it for the past two decades. It all started back in 2004 when he took the stage at the Vera Project for his very first performance. Twenty years later Grynch bounds back up on the Vera stage – should be memorable. Vera stage – Saturday at 4:35 pm.
A few weeks back we saw Acid Tongue guitarist Guy Keltner shredding it with the Mexico City/Seattle band, Mala Suerte. It was a fast and furious set. This time around, Keltner is on the Vera stage with Acid Tongue, the band he formed almost a decade ago. Vera stage – Sunday 3:30 pm.
We caught Pom Pom Squad a couple of years back at a live KEXP in-studio performance. Hailing from Brooklyn, they’re rolling through town again for Bumbershoot. We’re there for it. Vera stage – Sunday 6:15 pm.
