SXSW Announces Closing Night Film: ‘The Idea of You’ Brings Laughter & Love to SXSW
SXSW is pulling out all the stops for its 2024 Film & TV Festival, culminating in the World Premiere of “The Idea of You,” directed by two-time SXSW Audience Award winner Michael Showalter and starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine.
The film follows Solène (Hathaway), a single mom navigating life and her teenage daughter’s obsession with August Moon, the hottest boy band on the planet. When Solène unexpectedly crosses paths with the band’s lead singer, Hayes Campbell (Galitzine), sparks fly instantly. But as their romance unfolds, Solène finds herself confronting the challenges of life in the spotlight.
The “Idea of You” boasts a talented supporting cast, including Ella Rubin, Reid Scott, Annie Mumolo, and more. Based on the novel by Robinne Lee, the film marks Showalter’s latest return to SXSW, where he has consistently garnered acclaim for projects like “Hello My Name is Doris” and “The Big Sick,” both Audience Award winners.
Joining The “Idea of You” in the festival’s lineup are previously announced titles like the Centerpiece Screening “The Fall Guy,” Opening Night TV Premiere “3 Body Problem,” and Opening Night Film, the reimagining of “Road House.”
SXSW 2024 takes place in Austin, TX March 8-16.
