Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre will be the launch pad for the first national tour of Suffs, the Tony Award-winning musical from Shaina Taub. The production kicks off Sept. 13 and runs through Sept. 27, 2025.

Taub, who broke ground on Broadway as the first woman to independently take home Tonys for both book and score in the same season, wrote the music, lyrics and script. Suffs revisits the women’s suffrage movement of the early 20th century, spotlighting the leaders who pushed for voting rights while navigating their own rivalries, contradictions and personal costs.

On Broadway, the show played a 10-month run at the Music Box Theatre from April 2024 through January 2025. It picked up multiple honors along the way, including the Outer Critics’ Circle Award for best new musical and two Drama Desk Awards, with the Chicago Tribune hailing it as “unquestionably the most emotionally stirring musical of the season.” The touring production will once again be staged by Tony nominee Leigh Silverman (Violet, Yellow Face).

Special Community Impact Night

As part of its Seattle run, the 5th Ave Theatre will stage a one-night-only Community Impact Night on Sept. 16, supported by Pivotal Ventures. Nearly 1,800 attendees from local education groups and organizations focused on gender equity and social change are expected to attend. Attendees will include education groups and organizations that champion women, promote gender equity, and work toward social change.

The event, which is part of the national launch of SUFFS is designed to expand access to musical theater for historically excluded communities and to underscore the civic themes at the heart of Suffs. Organizers describe the evening as a chance for audiences to see their own stories reflected onstage and to leave inspired to push for change in their communities.

Seattle audiences will be the first to see the show’s touring cast, followed by cities across the U.S. through the summer of 2026. Tickets are on sale now at the box office located at 1308 5th Avenue, online at www.5thavenue.org
