Street Eats Opens for a Quick Bite or Grab-and-Go

Tucked into the vast pedestrian walkway at the base of Amazon between 6th and 7th Avenue sits street eats, a bright spot for the lunch and dinner crowd. Street eats quietly opened its doors this past week as they put the finishing touches on their classic Middle Eastern menu with a twist.

The food should be familiar to many South Lake Union diners and nearby employees lunching in the area. Street eats is the latest venture from the group that brought us the popular Capitol Hill restaurant, mamnoon, as well as its sister restaurant mamnoon street.

With street eats, you’ll find the popular Middle Eastern fare like fatteh, balila, and mujadara with an added focus on traditional and modern Levantine and Latin flavors.

Mixing it up

Along with the set menu, there are also plenty of options to mix things up with the “build-your-own” street bowl. And that’s just what we did at a recent preview event, to wit: a layer of hummus topped with lamb awarma, pickled cabbage, and finished with a drizzle of the addictive persian salsa macha satisfied. Add a side of Arabic bread and wash it all down with a mint lemonade (kissed with orange flower water) and you’re sure to be pleasantly sated.

If you’ve been in South Lake Union you know that getting a seat at a restaurant can become a competitive sport – especially as workers start to shed their pajamas and head back into the office.

Although there are a couple of tables and a counter space to pull up some chairs, street eats has speed and efficiency in mind. In addition to the customizable menu and advance online ordering, the space houses a mini manna market, featuring a retail wall of mamnoon’s fine foods pantry and an array of grab-and-go refrigerated items.

At the preview event, co-owner Wassef Haroun offered up some of his personal favorites on the menu and praised his cooks creativity including Chef Angela Ortez-Zarate for introducing Latin flavors to the menu.

That prompted us to pile the cauliflower al pastor, pickled cabbage, charred pineapple salsa and avocado labneh over the house basmati rice. 10/10 we’d do it again!

It was a typical day for Haroun, who can often be seen in one of the half dozen eateries that fall under the moniker, mama group. With this launch, street eats joins the host of his other Middle Eastern restaurants including mamnoon, mamnoon street, manna, mbar, and hanoon in Kirkland.

street eats is open for dine-in, pickup and delivery, Monday through Friday from 10 – 7 pm.
