Street Art Takes Center Stage During Belltown Mural Festival
Belltown is set to become a living canvas. From August 13th to 18th, The Belltown Mural Festival will be home to dozens of local artists creating murals throughout the neighborhood. Add to that a series of related events and exhibits that roll out at a constant clip and you have a recipe for a week-long, street art party.
The festival kicks off with a Mural Happy Hour at Screwdriver Bar on August 13th. Artists, neighbors and the curious will gather over drinks and a little rock ‘n’ roll (and maybe a lot of karaoke) in celebration of the dope creations to come.
The following evening, it’s on to the Portal Porch. If you haven’t heard of the Portal Porch, you’ve certainly walked by it during your Belltown treks. At 1st and Battery, this 1,800 square foot public space plays host to outdoor summer movies hosted by Base Camp Studios. On August 14, in affiliation with Belltown Mural Festival, they’ll throw the climate-related film “DamNation.” So grab a seat on one of the ‘modular industrial benches’ and enjoy.
Mural paintings and more
Don’t sleep on the “Walls Out” gallery show August 15th at Base Camp Studios 2. This sure to be sick event will feature works from over 20 Seattle mural artists. The exhibition also serves as a prelude to the talent that will be on display on a larger scale throughout Belltown during the week including the works of Joe Nix, Brady Black, Ariel Parrow & Sean Hamilton, Nalisha Estrella, Paul Nunn, Craig Cundiff & Sam Sneke, Myron Curry, Addison Karl, and Stevie Shao.
The Paint Jam Street Festival at Bell Street Park on August 16th and 17th is the perfect combination of live mural painting and DJs laying down tracks plus bands performing live sets. The full line-up of bands is still coming together but we’re told Bernee Luv, DJ Sureal, DJ soulstoryhour, BYCT, DJ Kfly, Maxwell Edison, and Brenna Dart will be on the ones and twos throughout the afternoon and evening.
The event wraps on August 18th with a Mural Walking Tour starting at the Belltown Dog Park. It’s the perfect jumping off point to get some good pets in before checking out the completed murals up close.
The festivities may end, but the new murals will be around, leaving Belltown with new skin and artwork to discover. For more information about the festival, participating artists, and event schedules, visit the Belltown Mural Festival website or follow their socials.
