SIFF Announces ‘Sing Sing’ as Closer For Fest’s 50th Anniversary
SIFF recently announced its opener for the 50th Seattle International Film Festival, and now we know the closer.
“Sing Sing,” a true story about an inmate at Sing Sing who finds purpose through participation in a prison theatre group, will be the fest’s official closing film on Saturday, May 18th at SIFF Cinema Downtown. The closing night party follows at the Museum of History & Industry in South lake Union.
Directed by Greg Kwedar, “Sing Sing” screened at SXSW several weeks back and won the Audience Award. The film stars a cast of formerly incarcerated actors who will be in attendance, along with Kwedar, for a Q&A afterward. They will also be honored with a Golden Space Needle Award for their outstanding performance.
The celebratory bash at MOHAI will feature live music by DJ Paco, drinks and some nosh. Partygoers can also get in on a a raffle and silent auction, with all proceeds benefiting the festival.
All of this caps SIFF’s 50th anniversary before the fest continues virtually with select films streaming on the SIFF Channel May 20–27.
