Seattle Lands First-Ever Nonstop Flight to Rome with Alaska Airlines
Alaska Airlines

Seattle travelers dreaming of la dolce vita will soon have a new way to get there—no layovers required. Alaska Airlines announced it will launch the first-ever nonstop service between Seattle-Tacoma International Airport and Rome, Italy, adding a key transatlantic route to the region’s growing list of global destinations.

Set to begin in summer 2026, the new route marks a milestone for both the airline and the city. Rome has long been the most popular European city not directly connected to Seattle by air. The addition will also improve access for travelers across the West Coast and Hawaiʻi.

The new route will be served by Alaska Airlines on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, part of its expanding international fleet. Flights will depart Seattle at 6 p.m. and arrive in Rome at 1:45 p.m. the following day. Return flights from Rome will depart at 3:45 p.m. and land in Seattle by 6 p.m. The service will operate four times a week—on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays from Seattle, and on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Rome.

Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International

Rome joins Tokyo-Narita and Seoul-Incheon as Alaska’s third international widebody destination from Seattle. The city’s main airport, Leonardo da Vinci Fiumicino International (FCO), offers connections to over 230 destinations in 80 countries. It also provides convenient access to Italian cities like Milan, Florence, and Naples, and serves as a hub for Mediterranean cruises.

Rome is currently undergoing a large-scale refresh in preparation for the Vatican’s 2025 Jubilee Year, which is expected to draw millions of visitors. FCO is in the midst of a €9 billion modernization effort, and U.S. and Canadian nationals will benefit from e-gate passport controls for quicker arrivals.

Travelers can expect Alaska Airlines ticket sales to Rome to begin this fall, available at both alaskaair.com and hawaiianairlines.com. An early-access list is open at alaskaair.com/rome for those who want to be among the first to know when fares go live.
