Seattle and glass art – the two go hand in hand. And there’s no better display of the glassblowing talent in this community than during the Refract Glass Art Festival, taking place October 17-20. This annual celebration of glass brings together over 60 Pacific Northwest arts organizations and more than 90 events that will be taking place across Seattle and neighboring cities.

This year’s highlights include new exhibitions showcasing works by the winners of the Netflix series “Blown Away” (season 4) and a debut exhibit at the Seattle Art Museum featuring Joyce J. Scott. The festival is also bringing back its popular shuttle service to whisk you away to private artist studios throughout Seattle.

And, the kick off celebration is not to be missed. The opening party takes place inside (and out) of the luminous Chihuly Garden and Glass.  Another ticketed event that has become a ‘must’ for those wanting to celebrate while possibly picking up some great art and experiences is the Pilchuck Glass School’s Annual Auction & Gala. For those seeking a more intimate experience, tours at artists studios are taking place throughout the fest, including a peek into Dale Chihuly’s private studio and hotshop, The Boathouse.

Refract also puts you up close to the action at various glassmaking demonstrations. From daily demonstrations at Seattle Glassblowing Studio to neon bending at Radiant Neon, these events offer a firsthand look at the skill and artistry behind glass creation.
