Mixy Music Monday: Sarah Kinsley is Riding a Wave of Success Following Release of ‘Escaper’

New York-based artist Sarah Kinsley continues her musical journey with her debut album “Escaper,” released through Verve Forecast/Decca. The album showcases a bold vision, particularly evident in the self-directed and produced video for her single “Knights,” which was unveiled in late 2024.

For “Escaper,” Kinsley joined forces with Grammy-winning producer John Congleton, known for his work with indie powerhouses Angel Olsen, St. Vincent, and Sharon Van Etten. This collaboration marks a significant milestone in her career, which began with a series of critically acclaimed EPs: “The King” (2021), “Cypress” (2022), and “Ascension” (2023).

“One realization you have eventually as an insular, more introspective person is that there’s a world outside of yourself waiting for you to look into it,” Kinsley mused. “I had made every single EP from scratch, in the sweetness of my apartment… This record was meant to be grand and unstoppable. .

Kinsley’s breakthrough moment came when “The King” captured audiences on TikTok, contributing to her impressive 121 million global streams across her catalogue. Her success has translated into touring, with recent headline tours spanning North America, the U.K., and Europe. Notable performances included packed shows at New York’s Webster Hall and two sold-out nights at the iconic Troubadour in Los Angeles. She also stopped by Neumos in Seattle for a performance in September of last year.

Kinsley has appeared at Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits as well as shared stages with some of alt-pop music’s most respected names, opening for artists like Mitski, Sylvan Esso, Weyes Blood, and Gus Dapperton.
