Mixy Music Monday: Chet Faker Debuts New Single “Inefficient Love”
Chet Faker

Chet Faker has dropped a new song called “Inefficient Love,” and it’s a slow, emotional track that shows a softer side of the Australian artist. Built around a quiet guitar riff and dreamy vocal layers, the song feels like a late-night confession. The song is straightforward and emotional, filled with the honesty that defines Chet Faker’s music.

Nick Murphy, the man behind the name, says the song came to him in one quick burst. “I was sitting on my couch at home watching a show and started playing the guitar and just played the whole song in about five minutes,” he says. That spur-of-the-moment energy runs through the track, giving it a natural, almost nostalgic feel.

“Inefficient Love” follows this summer’s “Far Side of the Moon,” continuing Murphy’s streak of songs that look inward instead of chasing trends. His voice moves through the song with a mix of hope and frustration, describing a love that doesn’t quite work.

Chet Faker has built a career on blending soul, electronic, and pop in unpredictable ways. After his breakout EP Thinking in Textures in 2011 and his 2014 debut Built on Glass, which featured hits like “Gold” and “Talk Is Cheap,” he quickly became a key figure in indie music. Later, he experimented under his real name before reviving Chet Faker with Hotel Surrender in 2021.

With “Inefficient Love,” he strips everything back to the essentials. Sometimes the simplest songs say the most, and Chet Faker shows he still knows how to make vulnerability sound cool.
