Mexico City-based Artist Orly Anan Explores the Idealizations of Female Stereotypes at Seattle Art Fair
Orly Anan - Seattle Art Fair

Orly Anan invites you to explore the notion that who you are is how you pose, and how you pose is who you are.

With more than 85 local, national, and international galleries, there will be plenty to take in at Seattle Art Fair.

If you’ve been to the fair in past years, you know that the maze-like structure and expansive offerings can have a dizzying effect. But, around every corner you’re guaranteed to see work that is eye-caching, evocative, or just plain fun.

One artist we look forward to tripping across is Mexico City-based, Colombian/Israeli visual artist Orly Anan.

Anan lands in Seattle with her work, LAS BALEBOSTE. As part of the Public Projects programming, LAS BALEBOSTE is a constellation of 18 masks that “explores the idealizations of female stereotypes with imagined characters full of strong personalities.”

With her work, Anan invites the viewer to delve into the notion that who you are is how you pose, and how you pose is who you are.

Anan recently completed production on her first short film, EIN SOF. Although the film will not screen at this fair, it will be making the rounds at film fests and other art events later this year.

Here’s a sneak peek of the film that gives us a glimpse into Orly Anan’s vivid vision.
