Industry Cook Book Issues Call for Recipes

As we originally reported in May of last year, Sarah Monson is once again printing a cook book to benefit King County mutual aid funds.

Monson, a cook at Manolin, is accepting handwritten recipes from industry chefs, bakers and bartenders to be compiled into the 3rd edition of the cook book. Recipes of all sorts – sweet, savory, fancy, simple – can be submitted. Recipes must be handwritten and “doodles and anecdotes” are highly encouraged. Let your personality shine!

Recipes are welcome from all industry folks and will be included in the book exactly as written. Your recipes may be submitted to Monson at Manolin Wednesday through Saturday, or you may DM her for a mailing address. Deadline for submissions is March 5.

This is a great opportunity for industry vets to come together again for a great cause while having their talents celebrated. Last year, Vol 2 included 60 recipes – Monson hopes Vol 3 will be “bigger and radder” than ever.

For non-industry folks, pre-order details will be available soon.

Industry cook book to Benefit King County Mutual Aid. Pre-orders start May 11, cook book launch on May 25

When the pandemic hit, Sarah Monson was looking for ways to connect with her restaurant industry family. She knew that there were many others experiencing the same loss of community.

So Monson, a cook at Rupee, started collecting handwritten recipes from others across the city. With recipes in hand, she published The Cook Book.

From recipe sheets torn out of notebooks to illustrated step-by-step instructions, the cook book struck an intimate chord. Word got out and copies were snatched up with part of the proceeds going to a handful of worthy causes.

Although there is light at the end of the tunnel, a year later there is still that need for connection.

Industry Cook Book – Part II

So Monson has compiled a new batch of recipes from cooks, bartenders and restaurateurs from the Seattle area. In Vol. 2, you’ll find the same heartfelt DIY feel, but with many more from the industry sharing their love of food and community.

Full of recipes and personal touches, presales for The Cook Book Vol. 2 start on Tuesday, May 11. This time around, a portion of the proceeds will benefit Covid19 Mutual Aid – Seattle.

To celebrate, Monson has pulled together some contributing cooks for a book launch on May 25. There will be food, drink and plenty of industry love. And it all goes down at Rupee Bar from 2 – 7 p.m.

As advertised: “Come snag your copy and some tasty snacks by the recipe contributors.” They promise to cook until they sell out.

You can pick up the book at Rupee (pre-ordered or purchased on site) or have it shipped to you. Books are $20 and you can pre-order copies from Sarah Monson at @smonson
