Comedy / Bar Brings Some Laughter, and Drinks, to Capitol Hill
Get ready for some laughs this weekend at Comedy / Bar, a new spot on Capitol Hill to get your funny on.
This new comedy club was born out of local comedian Dane Hesselddahl’s desire to inject a little more local comedy into the area. The echoes of laughter had diminished somewhat since the closing of Jai Thai – a favorite for catching local stand-ups.
The Comedy / Bar has set up shop at the former Highline Bar on Broadway, in the same complex where people are known to toss axes at the bar Blade and Timber.
Hesselddahl envisions his new club as a place where locals can flex their comedic muscle. With three nights slated for open-mic, there will be plenty of chances to steel your nerves and try out that new material in front of a supportive crowd.
Kicking off the first set of this new undertaking is comedian Sam Miller, who coincidentally got his start at Jai Thai’s open mic.
In addition to open-mic nights and comedy shows, there will be other mischief happening 6 nights a week, including trivia, karaoke, bingo and spelling bees. Hesselddahl also hopes to host community workshops on the weekends for budding Seattle talent.
Comedy / Bar
Given its name, there are also drinks involved. In addition to the non-alcoholic cocktails made with Pathfinder spirits, Comedy / Bar offers some classic cocktails as well – with a twist. Signature drinks include a Mezcal Negroni, Tequila Old Fashioned, New Your Sour, and a Bay Breeze.
Looking ahead, if you don’t have plans for Mother’s Day yet you may want to head to the Comedy / Bar. Comedian Chanel Ali (Comedy Central) will be on stage before she heads back to New York for her weekly gig at Stand Up NY.
Comedy / Bar has a strong local and regional line-up right out of the gate. You can learn more about the upcoming shows here.
