Celebrate 40 Years of Willamette Valley Wines at Seattle’s Pinot in the City
Adelsheim Ribbon Springs Vineyard by Kent Derek Studio

The highly anticipated Pinot in the City event makes its return to the Emerald City on Wednesday, May 8th, 2024. Presented by the Willamette Valley Wineries Association (WVWA), this premier tasting experience offers an opportunity to delve into the world-renowned wines of Oregon’s Willamette Valley.

This year’s event holds special significance. It marks not only Pinot in the City’s return to Seattle (where it debuted 14 years ago), but also the 40th anniversary of the Willamette Valley’s designation as Oregon’s first American Viticultural Area (AVA). This particular recognition solidified the region’s reputation for exceptional grape growing conditions, particularly for Pinot noir.

Nearly 60 Willamette Valley wineries will be pouring their finest vintages at Block 41, located in Seattle’s Belltown neighborhood. Attendees can expect a diverse range of producers, from established pioneers like Adelsheim and Elk Cove Vineyards to exciting newcomers like Sealionne and Arabilis.

“One of the event’s greatest elements is placing the winemaker and wine enthusiast in the same room, allowing for one-on-one contact and the details behind every pour,” said Morgen McLaughlin, executive director of the WVWA. “Making this kind of connection would normally require traveling to the Willamette Valley.”

More Than Pinot

Pinot noir, the Willamette Valley’s signature grape, will undoubtedly be the star of the show. However, the event caters to a wider audience, with wineries also showcasing exceptional Chardonnay, Pinot gris, and Riesling. This diversity reflects the region’s flourishing wine scene, where innovative vintners are constantly pushing boundaries.

“Returning to the vibrant city of Seattle multiple times allows us to illustrate the remarkable evolution of wines over the course of many years,” said Kate Norris, winemaker at Division Wine Company, who will be pouring her wine at the event. “Though consistently of exceptional quality, each vintage reflects the distinct nuances of its growing season, presenting our Pacific Northwest friends with an ever-evolving and intriguing selection.”

Wine enthusiasts can choose between a VIP Consumer event from 5:30 pm to 6:30 pm, offering an exclusive early access, or the General Consumer event from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Tickets for the VIP Consumer event are $150, while General Consumer tickets are priced at $105.
