Bumbershoot Day 2: Psychedelic Funk and Lowriders
Bumbershoot Day 2 continued to impress with music, fashion and art. A couple of faves from the day: Balthvs on the KEXP stage provided some psychedelic funk – with a little Santana thrown in for good measure. Angélica Garcia, also on the KEXP stage, was electric (even after her mic cut out) and kept the crowd dancing up to the last refrains of “Hey Paloma.”
There was also plenty of visual art to be discovered about the grounds and there were no shortage of domes. Domes for comedy, domes for cats, domes for wigs, and even a dome for pole dancing.
Day 2 also provided perfect weather for roller skating as Roll Around Seatown laced up and leaned into their turns in the Recess District. And for the kid in all of us, double-dutch jump rope was a big hit.
As night approached, a suprise appearance of a fleet of lowriders rolled into Seattle Center grounds creating an instant buzz.
Once the final improvised note rang out from Marc Rebillet to close out the fest, the grounds – which saw an estimated 26,000 bumber fans over the two day fest – cleared out. It’s safe to say that Bumbershoot 2024 found its footing and this year’s fest can go down in the books as a success.
