Bumbershoot Day 1: Insane in the Brain
The first day of music (and food) at Bumbershoot delivered on all stages.
At the Fashion District stage, Tres Leches provided a frenzy of rock and punk under the unusually hot sun that kept festival goers ducking for shade all day. The KEXP Stage kept music lovers on their feet throughout the day and well into the night. Teke::Teke was all about energy, psychedelic colors and good vibes as they ripped through their set. Percussionist Kassa Overall followed as he reminisced about seeing some jazz greats at Bumbershoot “back in the day” – while laying down his own impressive grooves behind the drums. As the day went on, Lee Fields took the stage with a soul-driven set that had the couples in the crowd swaying.
The Fisher Stage hosted one of the night’s headliners with Cypress Hill delivering a crowd-pleasing performance of old school hip-hop. Their set, which included their iconic hit “Insane in the Brain,” brought together fans who have been following them for the past 36 years, and new fans who (hard to believe) were just discovering their iconic sound.
In between it all, there were tasty cocktails and 30 food vendors dishing out some incredible fare to keep everyone fueled as they powered on to hear the next band.
From rock and soul to hip-hop that spread across all stages, Bumbershoot hit the right mix of local talent and established acts that set a high bar for day 2. Here are a few moments from the day.
