Bumbershoot 2024 Line-up Promises Some Heat Labor Day Weekend
Get ready for a Labor Day weekend filled with music, art, and delicious eats at the 2024 Bumbershoot festival. Returning to Seattle Center on August 31st and September 1st, Bumbershoot carries on the long standing Labor Day tradition of taking over the Seattle Center grounds for one big party – to the delight of many (40,000 happy festival goers turned out last year).
Musical Headliners and More
Just announced, this year’s lineup boasts a strong mix of established and up and coming artists. Indie legends from the 90s, Pavement reunite to hit Bumbershoot’s main stage, while West Coast hip hop legends (and Hollywood Walkers of Fame) Cypress Hill will be a highly anticipated show. For all of the YouTubers out there, get the bathrobes ready as Marc Rebillet roles into Bumbershoot for a set.
Ultimate soul singer Lee Fields is no stranger to Seattle audiences – he’s jetting back to the Emerald City to wow us again at Bumbershoot. And, bassist, guitarist, and vocalist (not to mention founding member of influential alt rock band, Sonic Youth), Kim Gordon is another fest headliner sure to draw big crowds. Look for me upfront!
Check out the poster for a full list of acts that will plug in during the 2-day fest.
A Feast for the Eyes
Bumbershoot isn’t just about music. Again this year, the festival presents a range of art experiences that go far beyond what you would find within the four walls of a museum.
Century 21 District: Catch some large-scale sculptures – plus, a collaboration with NASA that projects James Webb Space Telescope images alongside live performances.
Animation District: It’s a Bigfoot Deepfake Competition. Need we say more?
Recess District: Double-dutch jump rope is always a favorite, but breakdancing and roller skating competitions aren’t too far behind.
Fashion District: Fashionistas take note. Runway shows, clothing vendors, and hair and makeup artists will come together – ready to transform your look.
Fan Favorites Return
There are a few things that were such a hit at last year’s Bumbershoot that they’re bringing them back in 2024.
Out of Sight: This is art within four walls of a gallery – the gallery just happens to be the massive Fisher pavilion that will host a group exhibition showcasing some of the best of Pacific Northwest contemporary art.
Geodesic Domes: Yes, the Cat Circus is back (some said the lines to get in last year were a bit much), but there is also a new Comedy Dome, plus a Wig Farm (I sense selfies coming).
Food, Food, and more Food: If it’s a Seattle gathering, good food is not far away. Some of the area’s best restaurants, breweries, and wineries will be on hand to keep you fully sated. Victor Steinbrueck’s Local Tide, a seafood fave of many will be there. So will Melissa Miranda’s Musang, which is rightfully on everyone’s list for some of the best Filipino food in the city. For a West African option, check out Tina Fahnbulleh’s Gold Coast Ghal Kitchen. And long time industry vet Ethan Stowell’s, Ballard Pizza Co. will be on hand if you are in need of a NY Style slice. You can see the full line-up of other great noshes here.
