America’s Test Kitchen Coming to Seattle, Gadgets and All
One of my favorite segments on America’s Test Kitchen is the Equipment Corner with Adam Ried. I don’t know why, as I use very few gadgets when I cook. Perhaps it’s the way Ried puts each gadget through a demanding set of tests and then methodically lays out the results. More likely though, it’s his affable approach to breaking down the pros of cons of even the most mundane kitchenware (see video below).
For 20 years, America’s Test Kitchen (ATK) has been guiding us through recipes, teaching us how to properly flambé, and steering us toward gadgets that should make our lives a bit easier in the kitchen. To celebrate the two-decade mark, ATK is taking its show on the road. Pulling into Seattle November 8-9, America’s Test Kitchen will break the fourth wall for two days, bringing its cooking, food and wine to the people.
Face to face with America’s Test Kitchen
This is your chance to meet the hosts and crew of ATK you’ve come to know and love through hours of PBS viewing. In addition to Ried, ATK hosts Bridget Lancaster and Julia Collin Davison will be in town to share some of their cooking tips, and perhaps some behind-the-scenes antics. Another popular ATK mainstay, Chief Creative Officer Jack Bishop, will be in town and hopefully treat Seattle to one of his blind tastings.
The first America’s Test Kitchen event kicks off Friday night with a party at Bloc 41. Cast and crew will be on hand with a toast to fans in making ATK a top rated program for the past 20-years. There will also be plenty of delicious food and drink from some of Seattle’s top chefs including:
Kimberly Cosway: Heartwood Provisions
Jason Stratton: Mbar
Shota Nakajima: Adana
John Sundstrom: Lark
Carrie MashAney: Mamnoon
Elizabeth Kenyon: Manolin
Shawn Applin: RN74
Stuart Lane: Spinasse
Mitch Mayers: Sawyer
With cocktails by way of:
Amanda Reed: Heartwood Provisions
Courtney Randall: Mbar
Scott Diaz: Stanley &Seafort’s
On Saturday, ATK hosts the main event at Bell Harbor/Pier 66. A large test kitchen stage will be the focal point for the afternoon’s festivities. ATK’s hosts will be leading cooking demos while you enjoy food and drink from some of Seattle’s best chefs.
In between learning how to make the crispiest fries and discovering a revolutionary kitchen technique, you’ll find an impressive showing from Seattle restaurants. It’s a long list but a few names include Ascend Prime Steak and Sushi, Ciudad, Honest Biscuit, Tulio, Rider and Salumi. Click here for a full list of participating restaurants.
