5 Seattle Theater Productions We’re Excited to See in January
5 Seattle theater productions make their debut in January
2022 starts off with some solid performances hitting the boards across the Seattle-area. It’s time to shake the snow from your boots and head inside (masked appropriately, of course) for some much-needed live performances.
Here are 5 performances we are excited to see.
Seattle Rep
The Seattle Rep kicks off the 2022 season on January 14 with Fannie – The Music and Life of Fannie Lou Hamer. An American voting and women’s rights activist, Fannie Lou Hamer was co-founder and vice-chair of the Freedom Democratic Party.
The Rep stages this one-woman show that promises to be part theater, part revival, and all power. Count us in!
Seattle Public Theater
Another one-women show we are excited about is Mala, kicking off on January 21 at Seattle Public Theater. Described as an irreverent exploration of how we live, cope and survive in the moment, Mala’s timing couldn’t be more perfect.
WGBH taped and aired a Boston production of Mala last year during the height of the pandemic. A great resource while we could not venture out, but we’re glad to have live theater back!
On The Boards – POSTPONED
We’re sensing a theme here. Faye Driscoll wraps up her final performance at OTB with Thank You For Coming: Space. Speaking of space, this is an intimate, and sometimes interactive, experience limited to 100 people per performance.
Driscoll rolls into town January 20 with performances through January 23 so get your tickets now.
A Contemporary Theatre
Seattle playwright Yussef El Guindi brings his latest work, Hotter than Egypt, to the ACT stage this month. Our travel may have been limited over the past 18 months, so we’ll gladly be transported to Cairo for this latest dramedy.
Hotter than Egypt marks ACT’s 50th World Premiere and starts its run on January 28.
Washington Ensemble Theatre
Want to get an inside glimpse into some new Seattle theater explorations? Washington Ensemble Theater is giving you a chance to check out some new works from some new talent with its Six Pack Series. That’s right, six Seattle artists all giving us their take on the theme: My Worlds on Fire. How ‘Bout Yours?
You can make your new discoveries at WET, January 25-26
