5 Seattle Theater Productions to Catch as Summer Turns to Fall
There are many reasons to love this time of year.
Seattle Mariners are in the playoff hunt (fingers crossed). The Seahawks season has officially kicked off (with less than an auspicious start). And, you finally get to break out the layers and don that ubiquitous Pacific Northwest knit cap that you’ve been dying to get back in rotation.
And then there’s the Seattle arts scene.
Film fests, dance performances, music and visual arts give you the perfect reason to duck inside when the weather cools and the sun starts to hibernate. And for theater buffs, September brings with it a fresh new slate of productions around the city.
Here are 5 current, or soon-to-open, Seattle theater shows to get your natty self over to the next several weeks. Just remember to remove your knit cap when the performance begins – as courtesy to the person sitting behind you.
Passengers
September 22 – October 15
A little bit of dance, acrobatics, music and more, this kinetic performance comes from the theater troupe The 7 Fingers. Never a dull moment, this production promises to be a spectacle for the senses.
Cambodian Rock Band
September 29 – November 5
Are you ready to rock? True to its name, this show is backed by a live band playing “contemporary Dengue Fever hits.” It all takes place as a Khmer Rouge survivor returns to Cambodia for the first time in thirty years.
Titanish
Runs through September 17
This well received production has been going strong since August. If you haven’t caught the Titanish bug yet, you only have a couple of more days to revel in the comedic talents behind this show. If you are having difficulties getting tickets online – don’t worry, the producers always set aside seats for walk-ins.
Dream House
Runs through Sept 25
Two sisters sign up for a reality tv show to sell their childhood home after the passing of the family matriarch – what could go wrong? Always inventive and engaging, the team at WET always delivers a fun night out.
Disney’s The Little Mermaid
Runs through October 8
If you missed it the first time it came through 5th Ave, here’s your chance to hum along with the catchy songs from the ever-popular Disney tale. The two leads, Diana Huey (Ariel) and Coleman Cummings (Prince Eric), bring some Western Washington theater acting cred with them. And, after her initial run as Ariel at the 5th Ave, Huey went on to received a Gregory Award for playing the same role in the National Tour of Disney’s The Little Mermaid.
