Mixy Music Monday: David Byrne and Brian Eno Reunite

David Byrne is back on the road, touring North America behind his new album Who Is The Sky?, and he dropped a new single this week to keep the momentum going. “T Shirt,” co written with his longtime friend Brian Eno, leans into a warm electro pop groove with a wink and a little political spark. Fans seemed to have latched onto the latest single, as it has become one of those songs everyone waits for in the set.

The album itself arrives seven years after American Utopia, which spun off into a Broadway run and an HBO film. For this one, Byrne worked with producer Kid Harpoon and the Ghost Train Orchestra, who helped shape the record’s 12 tracks. Hayley Williams, St. Vincent and Tom Skinner all make appearances, giving the album a mix of voices that fits right in with Byrne’s curious, wide angle style.

A New Chapter

Byrne has been open about where this new chapter comes from. “At my age, at least for me, there’s a ‘don’t give a shit about what people think’ attitude that kicks in,” he says. “I can step outside my comfort zone with the knowledge that I kind of know who I am by now and sort of know what I’m doing. That said, every new set of songs, every song even, is a new adventure.”

If you’re looking to catch Byrne live (always a great show), he’ll be playing these U.S. cities through the end of the year.
