Seattle’s stages are serving up an impressive mix of heart, humor, and high-stakes drama this April and May. Whether you’re a die-hard musical fan, a dance-theater devotee, or just looking to get out of the house for the night for some Seattle spring theater, there’s something for everyone this season. Here are six productions we’re especially excited about:

Seattle Rep – Laughs in Spanish
April 17 – May 11

Call it a comedy of (wild) errors. Alexis Scheer’s new play drops us into the middle of a career-defining day for Mari, a Miami art gallery owner whose plans unravel fast—think missing paintings, a surprise visit from her dramatic movie-star mother, and an unexpected blast from the romantic past. It’s part telenovela, part whodunnit, and all heart.

ACT Theatre – Golden
April 26 – May 11

A laundromat becomes the stage for transformation in the world premiere from Seattle playwright Andrew Lee Creech. Set in the aftermath of the 2008 financial crash, Golden follows Morris Golden, a man struggling to keep his business—and hope—alive, when a mysterious change machine offers unexpected magic. A touching, poetic story about resilience, legacy, and the moments that shape us.

5th Avenue Theatre – Parade
April 16 – May 4

Directed by Tony Award winner Michael Arden, this powerful revival of Parade tells the true story of Leo and Lucille Frank, a Jewish couple caught in a tragic storm of injustice in early 20th-century Georgia. With a score by Jason Robert Brown and a story that feels all too relevant, this musical is both heartbreaking and deeply human.

Washington Ensemble Theatre – Dads
April 24 – May 10

Bold, raw, and unlike anything else this season, Dads is an emotional dance odyssey about queer identity, masculinity, and the complicated legacies we inherit. Through movement and moments of honesty, Elby and Shane explore their friendships, their families, and their futures. It’s vulnerability at its most gripping—and yes, there’s some bumping and grinding, too.

ArtsWest – Athena
April 10 – May 4

Two teen girls. One fencing championship. Zero small talk. Gracie Gardner’s Athena follows Mary Wallace and Athena as they train together for Nationals—and slowly build a bond beyond competition. Witty and sharp with coming-of-age energy, this two-hander will charm you with its honesty and unexpected emotional punch.

On the Boards – Super Nothing
May 1 – 3

Choreographer Miguel Gutierrez returns with Super Nothing, a genre-defying dance-theater work that asks big questions with striking vulnerability. Featuring a cast of dancers from New York and Los Angeles, the piece dives into the emotional undercurrents of the creative process—grief, memory, ego, and the messy beauty of collaboration.

So there you have it: six reasons to silence your phone, grab a playbill, and get out to enjoy some of these can’t-miss performances from Seattle theaters this spring.
