The Great Pumpkin Beer Festival may be a 21+ shindig, but for families wanting to get into the action, mark you calendars for Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Weigh-Off. Presented by The Great Pumpkin Commonwealth of Washington, the “weigh-off” festivities take place September 28th from noon to 4 pm. This free, all-ages affair will feature plenty of giant pumpkins, activities for the young’uns, and a little friendly competition thrown in.

Held at Elysian’s Airport Way Brewery in Georgetown, this event brings together growers from across the region. These growers will have some massive pumpkins on hand in the hopes that their gourd will tip the scales in a battle for pumpkin supremacy.

The top five largest pumpkins will earn a place of honor at Elysian’s Great Pumpkin Beer Festival the following weekend. Two of these colossal cucurbits will be transformed into epic beer vessels – hollowed out, scorched, sealed, and filled with pumpkin beer to be tapped during the festival. You could say its a farm-to-glass expereince.

Creative spirits can try their hand at pumpkin carving, while the young (and young at heart) can show their festive flare with face painting. There will be plenty of food and drink to purchase as Melton’s BBQ and 9th & Hennepin Donuts will be setting up on location. And, Elysian will be pouring $5 pints of their acclaimed pumpkin beers, perfect for sipping while checking out the merch tent.
