SXSW Kicks Off with Booze, Brawls, and Gyllenhaal: “Road House” Remake Set to Ignite Festival
Get ready for flying fists and tropical cocktails, because the 2024 SXSW Film & TV Festival is opening with a bang! SXSW just announced that the highly anticipated remake of “Road House,” directed by Doug Liman and starring Jake Gyllenhaal, will kick off the festivities with its World Premiere.
This isn’t your dad’s “Road House,” though. This inspired reimagining promises an adrenaline-fueled ride as ex-UFC fighter Dalton (Gyllenhaal) takes on the job of bouncer at a picture-perfect Florida Keys bar. But Dalton quickly discovers its dark side as he finds himself in a fight for more than just tips.
Joining Gyllenhaal in this action-packed ensemble are Daniela Melchior, Billy Magnussen, Jessica Williams, and even UFC champ Conor McGregor.
“Road House is a crowd-pleasing, vengeance-seeking, boat-jumping bar brawl and we are thrilled to kick (and punch) off the SXSW Film & TV Festival with this wildly entertaining premiere,” said Claudette Godfrey, VP Film & TV for SXSW in a press statement. “We can’t wait for our audiences to turn opening night into a one-of-a-kind experience.”
But “Road House” is just the first punch in a knockout lineup for SXSW 2024. The festival also boasts previously announced gems like “The Fall Guy” and “3 Body Problem,” with even more exciting Headliners and Festival Favorites set to be revealed on February 7th.
So, whether you’re a film or TV buff, a music lover, a tech guru, or just looking for a wild ride, SXSW 2024 has something for you. Get ready to experience the magic as SXSW from March 8th to 16th in Austin. Just remember, as Dalton might say, “Be nice, or pay the price.”
