Sundance Film Festival Cancels In-Person Screenings and Events

Sundance Film Festival Cancels In-Person Screenings and Events for 2022 fete.

Set to be a hybrid in-person and online festival this year, Sundance was gearing up for its January 20 kick-off. That was until the Omicron variant continued to spike throughout the country.

Sundance Film Festival just announced that the in-person screenings and other live elements of the fest will be moving online for 2022. They were also fully online in 2021 due to the pandemic.

The fest is still slated to unspool beginning January 20 with single tickets to go on sale January 13. Also still in the mix are the screenings in local communities by the fest’s seven satellite partners.

The latest announcement coming out of Sundance states in part:

“We have been looking forward to our first fully hybrid Sundance Film Festival and our teams have spent a year planning a festival like no other. But despite the most ambitious protocols, the Omicron variant with its unexpectedly high transmissibility rates is pushing the limits of health safety, travel and other infrastructures across the country. And so, today we’re announcing: the Festival’s in-person Utah elements will be moving online this year.”
