SXSW Film Festival Returns to the Digital Stage.

You may recall last year’s SXSW Film Festival had to be cancelled all together. This was due, of course, to the global pandemic that hit just prior to its start.

Now, the SXSW Film Festival returns. And, the 2021 lineup has a lot to offer including plenty of world premieres, documentaries, and shorts.

Like most fests this year, the 2021 SXSW Film Festival will be unspooling its lineup across multiple digital platforms.

Skip the dip, not the flick

With a virtual fest, a dip in Barton Springs pool may be out of the question this year. However, you’ll still be able to dip into 75-plus films, many of which are getting their world premier at SXSW.

The fest kicks off March 16 with the film, Demi Lovato: Dancing with the Devil. Five days later, Alone Together, a documentary focused on another popstar, Charli XCX, closes the fest.

No festival would be complete without a closing night party and SXSW hooks you up. A pre-recorded DJ set from Charli will set the stage for a Zoom virtual rave dance party post screening.

In between March 16 and March 20, SWSW 2021 will screen 75 feature films. Plus, 84 short films and plenty of special online events. All the better to take part in your socially distanced Q&A and post-film discussions.

Another highly anticipated music doc will also premiere at this year’s SXSW. Tom Petty, Somewhere You Feel Free includes newly discovered 16mm film showing Petty working on his 1994 record Wildflowers.

We’ll be diving into specific films and events in the coming weeks. In the meantime, you can check out the full 2021 SXSW Film Festival lineup here
